Resources

A number of special resources enrich students’ experiences in the Environmental Studies Program at Richmond.

Environmental Awareness Group
The Environmental Awareness Group (EAG) is a University committee of faculty, staff and students who work with the Provost to improve the campus environment and promote environmental sustainability at the University.

Richmond Sierra Club
The University’s Sierra Club branch promotes environmentally friendly activities on campus and increases environmental awareness among students, faculty and staff.

Richmond Outdoors Club
Connected by a love for the outdoors, the Richmond Outdoors Club facilitates outdoor activities like hiking, mountain climbing, kayaking and more.

Environmental Residents Program
Environmentally conscious students who live in the University of Richmond’s residence halls can apply to be Environmental Residents. Students encourage eco-friendly living in the dorms and apartments on campus. Contact Dr. Chris Stevenson for more information and an application.

National Wildlife Federation Campus Ecology Program
National Wildlife Federation's Campus Ecology program helps colleges and universities confront global warming through climate and wildlife-friendly practices that reduce their global footprint. Campus Ecology supports campus members by providing consultation, educational resources, recognizing extraordinary efforts through an awards program and fellowships, and by cultivating long-term leaders on campus and in the community.

University Leaders for a Sustainable Future

The Association of University Leaders for a Sustainable Future (ULSF) works to strengthen the capacity of colleges and universities to make sustainability and environmental literacy a major focus of teaching, research, service, and operations. ULSF is the secretariat for signatories of the Talloires Declaration (1990), which has been signed by over 350 university presidents and chancellors worldwide.

Environmental Initiative of the Associated Colleges of the South

The Associated Colleges of the South Environmental Initiative supports new and existing programs on its member campuses. With funds from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, ACSEI supports Faculty Fellows and student interns, hosts conferences and maintains three inter-institutional alliances. The goal of the Environmental Initiative is to foster environmental course development with special attention to mathematics, social science, humanities, international and technology offerings; to recruit community partners and increase environmental justice and service learning efforts at home and abroad; to create new student teaching assistantships; and to support external student internships that promote environmentalism on the college campus.

Discipline-Specific Library Research Guide
Subject librarians at the University of Richmond Libraries maintain discipline-specific research guides for every academic course of study offered through the School of Arts & Sciences. Students in the Environmental Studies Program can contact the subject librarian directly, view top recommended resources and conduct discipline-specific searches of databases and Web sites. In addition, subject librarians frequently highlight new titles related to the academic field.
